100 Voices on Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity & Inclusion In The Workplace – Free Research

VPI understand that diversity and inclusion in the workplace is a growing concern and focus for many organisations.

To help organisations begin or continue a journey of improvement in this area and engage others with the topic of diversity and inclusion, we have created a number of free resources that act as a starting point to implementing real change.

Project overview

VPI interviewed 100 members of the public of different backgrounds, geographical locations, sexual orientation and age groups on the subject of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We captured over 15 hours of vox pops interview footage and from this, we have created an in-depth report on the findings as well as eight videos, which summarise people’s first-hand experiences of diversity at work.

The content we have created is intended to provide organisations with the tools to make a difference by being both insightful and engaging. This gives teams ammunition that will make a real impact and demonstrate the significance of diversity and inclusion, whether presenting to senior leaders or educating junior staff. Read up on the project below or fill in the form to access the resources.

Use our free content to demonstrate:

  • How important a diverse working team is to employees
  • How a diverse and inclusive working environment directly and positively impacts business
  • Feedback outlining steps companies can take to become more inclusive
  • Common problems to look out for

Intended business applications

We see this content having a number of applications within HR, Recruitment and Training depts. These may include:

  • Presenting to senior management to demonstrate the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, both in terms of company culture and in terms of business success. Helping teams get senior backing for their projects.
  • Helping line managers enthuse their staff to rise to the challenge of creating a more diverse and inclusive environment. Video accounts of personal stories and experiences are far more powerful, emotive and motivating than boring data and policies.
  • Using our content as a training resource to help training departments communicate important information in a format that is concise and engaging.

Research summary

Through our research we were able to examine the benefits that diversity and inclusion has for an organisation, with interviewees associating concepts such as creativity, new ideas, multiple perspectives, greater understanding of the market and a stronger set of company values. Such findings were congruent with The World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report 2018 in which inclusive and diverse societies directly translated to higher levels of business success, as well as an “increase in levels of innovation, and ability to build customer loyalty and brand strength”, all of which are key to business growth.

A few key findings

98% of respondents that we interviewed believe diversity in the workplace is important.
Over 70% of contributors highlighted the lack of diversity within top leadership roles.
The majority of interviewees had experienced or witnessed social exclusion at their workplace.
All respondents agreed that diversity builds positivity and a stronger image for the company.
Our research also debunks the many myths around diversity and highlights the many pitfalls businesses are making when it comes to addressing this workplace issue.

One common theme emerged as to whether companies should implement quotas as a means to rectify diversity issues within recruitment. Interviewees fed back that these methods are often “box ticking” exercises that merely mask the problem but do not solve it.

Respondents were also quick to highlight that companies weren’t doing enough to tackle subconscious discrimination in recruitment known as “Unconscious Bias”, in which snap judgements are made without the employer realising. Such results give insight into the correlation between how companies viewed their handling of diversity versus the way it is viewed by their employees.

What we ask in return

To help organisations get the most out of the resources, we have compiled all of the key findings, stories and videos into one presentation. We ask that we are able to meet with you in person to share our findings and leave you with some tools to make a difference in your organisation. This will include a quick de-brief as well as a discussion surrounding how you can get the most out of the content, considering your current objectives and challenges. We will leave you with the video content, research report and presentation to use how you see fit following this meeting.

For companies that are unable to arrange a meeting with us, you may purchase the content as a one-off resource for a nominal fee or begin a discussion about what content you require. We are also able to create bespoke edits from the footage for a significant discount on the typical project cost.
