This style of video research allows you to capture the thoughts and feelings of the public in relation to a wide range of topics. By using location-based recruitment, we are able to target very niche demographics. Short interviews also mean we are able to speak to a larger sample size, in a shorter time frame than other video research methodologies. Vox pops videos are often re-usable across different business roles and showcase consumer opinions in a visual and engaging format.

This style of video research has become a growing trend over recent years, but VPI offers an alternative take on the typically quantitative approach. Like our other video research services, we provide user-generated content as a qualitative research methodology. Recruitment screeners are used to select a sample of respondents, who then film themselves and upload their content via our bespoke app. Through this app, we are able to moderate in real time, ensuring the quality of responses and filming throughout. This methodology is popular for on-going international projects where video is used to establish a regular touchpoint with customers around the world.

Working for the Dove division of Unilever, we conducted some video research investigating women’s opinions towards hair conditioner. We conducted vox pops interviews with women in USA, Brazil and China. This project was turned around in just two weeks, start to finish, with the video being used at an internal workshop event.

Go Think Big is a partnership run by O2 as a social impact initiative. The team’s main focus is on helping young people find exciting work experience and career opportunities. The Campaigns and Content department at Go Think Big wanted to hear what young people thought about a few key topics. We hit the streets of London, Leeds and Birmingham to speak to people aged 16-26, questioning them about 6 different topics, including diversity and inclusion as covered in the video below.

When Treasury Wine Estates acquired Blossom Hill as an addition to its already extensive range of wine brands, they wanted to hear what women in Amsterdam thought about the taste and packaging of Blossom Hill wines so they could sell the brand into the Dutch market. We conducted product testing depth interviews with women in Amsterdam to find out what they thought.

PepsiCo wanted to capture feedback relating to how snack products fit in with different families’ ideas of a family night in, referred to as The Big Night In. They wanted the content to seem personal and authentic, so we asked 4 families to film their typical family night in and cover how snacks fitted in with this.

KBH had developed a new shopper archetype and wanted to bring this to life through video research. We conducted vox pops interviews at several train stations to find out about consumers’ shopping habits, views on on-train advertising, and memorable adverts they’d seen in the past. From the interview footage, we created a video that showcased key soundbites on how on-train shoppers use the train network, how and when they shop on the train and the impact that on-train advertising has on them. We also created 6 short ‘topic’ films, which explored on-train shoppers’ views on specific shopping motivations such as impulse buying and ethical considerations.
