Football rivalries often ignite the passions of fans like nothing else. In Manchester, any clash between the city’s two football giants, Manchester City and Manchester United, is a match eagerly anticipated by fans on both sides.
As the FA Cup final approaches, we took to the streets of Manchester to capture the excitement and hear firsthand from passionate supporters about their thoughts on the upcoming game.
From our vox pops we had the opportunity to engage with both sets of fans, and while Manchester United fans seemed to be out in force amongst our recruits, the anticipation of Manchester City fans was also strongly felt.
The passion and rivalry between these two Manchester clubs runs deep, with little love lost between fanbases, however a level of trepidation and respect was clear amongst supporters, with both groups acknowledging the potential for surprises in a cup competition. Despite Manchester City’s dominance in the Premier League, Manchester United fans took heart from their strong finish to the year and have faith that a vindicated trophy winning top-4 team can get the better of City in a one-off game. Although… some Manchester United fans exuded significantly less confidence, and are a little fearful given the form and recent results of Man City.
As the final showdown approaches on the 3rd of June, the passion and love for football in Manchester remain unwavering. Regardless of the outcome, this match will undoubtedly deliver a spectacle that will be remembered and talked about for years to come.
